FOURTH ANNUAL DC MUSIC SUMMIT ANNOUNCES VIRTUAL EVENT TO UNITE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Three-day event to equip creatives with strategies on living empowered in a COVID-19 world WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 30, 2021) – The DC Music Summit (DCMS), a local nonprofit and recipient of the 2021 Wammies “Do Good Award,” announced today its fourth annual and first-ever virtual conference to be held May 21 – 23, 2021. The Summit has a proud history of accelerating the careers of local musicians, with a focus on women of color and underrepresented groups, and strengthening the DC music industry through engagement, education, and partnership-building. Register for the event here.
Since its founding in 2016, the DC Music Summit, a 100% volunteer-run organization, has served more than 300 creatives and industry professionals each year at its annual conference. A key focus of the 2021 virtual Summit is to equip participants with strategies for thriving in the independent music industry during and beyond COVID-19, which has heightened the challenges musicians and industry professionals face nationwide.
“It’s an understatement to say this past year has been challenging and painful for the DC music scene, and other creatives across the country, due to the ongoing pandemic,” said Dior Ashley Brown, DC Music Summit founder and award-winning DC-based hip-hop artist. “This year’s DC Music Summit is about bringing our community together to identify how we can continue to rebuild and grow our scene, inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds. Join our movement, and prepare to be empowered into action.”
Conference participants are able to either attend the entire three-day event or create a custom schedule based on a diverse array of programming, including workshops, information sessions, industry panels, networking opportunities, and live performances by the biggest names in the local scene. Session tracks include: community development, youth development, business management, marketing, wellness, professional development, and thriving during COVID-19. All music industry professionals, from beginners to seasoned, are encouraged to attend.
