DUKE ELLINGTON SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
3500 R St NW, Washington, DC 20007
Duke Ellington School of the Arts was recognized by US News as one of the top schools in the nation and the #3 best school in the District of Columbia! Named after the composer, bandleader, and Washington, D.C. native, Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington, this school was founded over 50 years ago and is committed to promoting excellence in arts education by supporting and recognizing students, leaders, educators, schools, institutions, and organizations.
In keeping up with this mission, Duke recently announced the dedication of its new student arts space: the Theatre for Artistic Freedom & Expression. In his Netflix special that aired in June, three-time Grammy Award-winning and five-time Emmy Award-winning stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chapelle, a Duke Ellington alumnus, announced the new name of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts theatre. As such, we are so honored and would like to thank the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Project (DESAP) Board for its vision in collaborating with us on this event. In 1999 the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the George Washington University, and the Ellington Fund, formalized their long-time collaboration into DESAP, a non-profit organization that administers the school under an agreement with the DC Public Schools. Thank you @dukeellingtondc for being not only a collaborative partner of the 2022 DC Music Summit but the host location as well!
